Choose by system before declaring a winner
The most useful distinction here is the battery system you intend to own. The DeWalt kit is part of 20V MAX; the Milwaukee kit is part of M12. They are separate systems, not interchangeable battery options. Our recommendation is conditional: shortlist the compatible system that already makes sense for your tools and jobs.
This comparison uses manufacturer documentation. We have not drilled matching holes, measured operating temperature, timed fastening, or conducted run-time tests. We cannot establish which performs faster or lasts longer.
Kit identity matters
DeWalt’s kit page identifies DCD794D1 as the bundle containing the DCD794 drill, one DCB203 battery, a DCB107 charger, and a belt hook. Milwaukee’s page identifies 3403-22 as a bundle with the 3403-20 drill, two batteries, charger, and contractor bag.
Those details describe the manufacturer bundles. A retailer listing may be tool-only, a different bundle, or a seller-assembled package. Check the exact suffix and included parts rather than stopping at a photograph or brand name.
Controls do not establish performance
Both are drill/drivers with brushless motors and half-inch chucks. The DeWalt manual describes its screwdriving clutch, while Milwaukee lists a mechanical clutch. These features explain how the tools are intended to be controlled; they do not establish identical clutch behaviour or chuck grip in a test.
Neither model is the hammer-drill variant in its family. Avoid using a neighbouring model’s operating modes to describe one of these kits.
Why we do not compare unlike power numbers
Different specifications answer different questions. A voltage label, a torque claim, a speed figure, and a manufacturer’s power metric should not be treated as a single score. Without common test conditions and an appropriate method, assigning a winner would add certainty the research does not support.
For the same reason, we do not promise that one included battery will deliver a particular number of holes or working hours. Capacity and run time are not interchangeable claims.
Which reader should investigate which kit?
- Already invested in a compatible DeWalt setup: investigate DCD794D1 first, then decide whether its kit contents add value over a bare tool.
- Already using compatible M12 tools: investigate 3403-22 first, including whether you need both included battery sizes.
- Starting from scratch: compare total required purchases and future tools before choosing a platform.
- Needing capabilities beyond ordinary drilling and fastening: check exact manufacturer capacities and research a tool intended for that work.
These are editorial interpretations of the records above. Read the general buying checklist and kit-versus-bare-tool guide before committing.
